Making Music Nachvollziehbar.

When making music I think a lot about how to make it Nachvollziehbar. It’s a German word that I got from one of Hainbach’s videos, which I’ll link below. If you look on Google it will tell you that it translates to understandable in English. But in the video, Hainbach translates it as relatable, and this is backed up by other posts I’ve found online. To me, it has become a shorthand for one of the main challenges with performing electronic music live. And this is the sense in which Hainbach uses it. In order for an audience to understand a performance they must be able to connect the performers actions to what they are hearing. This is the danger laptop performance. Even if everything is played live, if the audience has no understanding of your action the music becomes acousmatic.
To the end of making my music more Nachvollziehbar I have been learning to play the guitar. To a contemporary western audience it is probably the most nachvollziehbar instrument there is, I think, more than a midi controller or even a piano keyboard.
This particular setup is one I made to allow me to improvise in a flexible way. I’m sure I’ll get better in the future but this is what I’ve got for now. More to come. Hope you like it.

All the best,
Robin P.
